At the beginning of the 18th century, Roman Catholic monks of the Jesuits had arrived to the Stanislavov city. In 1720-1729, they built a church, on the place of the burnt during the Turks attacks temple. Due to the Church planning errors, it turned out to be dilapidated building, so it was decided to disassemble it and build a new one on its place. Therefore, the modern temple was built in 1753-1763.
The Church is a work of the Austro-Bavarian baroque school. The slender silhouette of the main façade is complemented with while the tent alike completion of two towers, which shapes are borrowed from Hutsul wooden architecture.
It is interesting, that at different times the Cathedral was a place to almost all Christian denominations of the city. In 1763-1773 - the Church of the Jesuit Fathers, in 1773-1849 - it was closed for a while, it was a student chapel to believers of all denominations, from 1849 to 1946 and from 1990's until now - Greek-Catholic temple, and in 1946-1990 - the Church belonged to the Russian Orthodox Church.
The temple was restored in 1835, 1885, 1995 and 2003.
